The writing on the wall

There’s a light in the northern summer skyline

Calls me to a place that I once knew

It’s a light that shines so bright

That you can’t tell day from night

But I don’t know if I’ll ever get to you

I must find a space where I can wander

I need somewhere I can go and hide

There are some things you can’t see

And some things that set you free

But I’m just looking for a love denied

Anger is just love without an answer

And love is just a game that’s hard to play

When I was young I thought of you

And no one told me what to do

But now there’s nothing left for me to say

I recall a lamplight that was shining

Under which a boy was singing softly

Well how was he to know what happened?

Long ago a love impassioned

Came to be a love that was so costly

I see you in the dead of night

I hear you when you call

But I can’t read the words that they are

Writing on the wall

Sometimes when the darkness hangs above you

Words don’t seem to comfort you at all

You search inside your mind

For what you thought you’d left behind

But all you find is somewhere new to fall

How can I return to what was given

Maybe I can find another time

I don’t mind to be alone

But I don’t want to be just known

As the one who gave the world an empty rhyme

I see you in the dead of night

I hear you when you call

But I can’t read the words that they are

Writing on the wall
